Business, Community and Classroom Connections Academy for Math and Science Study Enhancement

This exciting two week summer program allows 32 math, science, and vocational teachers of 6th-12th grade the opportunity to learn from college educators and business professionals about the latest developments in math and science research and careers. During the academy, teachers are divided into eight small groups that explore one of the following areas:

• Air and Aerospace
• Animal Science
• Energy
• Forensics
• Public Health
• Space Science
• Transportation
• Water Resources.

The goal of the academy is to encourage teachers to discover how math and science curriculum are used in the business environment making school more relevant for their students through understanding careers that require mastery in these subjects. Teachers attending the academy may receive in-service credit or college credit through MTSU.

The BC3 Academy is held annually in mid-June. It is a cooperative effort between Rutherford County Schools, Murfreesboro City Schools, and the Business Education Partnership Foundation. It is funded by "Arts for Education: An Elegant Evening."

"I really enjoyed attending the BC3 academy. I am able to see how things I had never imagined can be incorporated into my classroom, such as calculating atmospheric pressure versus water pressure to see how long you can stay under water at each level. I also enjoy having a plethora of individuals and businesses I am able to call to help me in my classroom, whether it be speaking or giving me information about a lesson I am doing."

"The BC3 academy is a great resource for all teachers. It allows me to give real-world applications to the students. I can explain how math and science apply to their lives. It also allows me to make community contacts for guest speakers or to use as resources or references in science."
