The Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park, located in Pall Mall, Tennessee, pays tribute to Sgt. Alvin C. York, the backwoods marksman from the mountains of Tennessee who became one of the most decorated soldiers of World War I. Andrew York is the son of Alvin C. The Smyrna/LaVergne Food Bank was organized in 1982 to serve the emergency food needs of residents in the Smyrna-LaVergne area. The Food Bank is a non-profit agency which is funded by the United Way, private individuals, local governments, civic organizations and area churches. The Food Bank is governed by an unpaid Board of Directors that develop policy and procedures. The hours of operation are 2-6pm Monday, and 10am-2pm Tuesday-Friday. The Christopher Columbus Awards Program combines science and technology with community problem-solving. Students work in teams with the help of an adult coach to identify an issue they care about and, using science and technology, work with experts, conduct research and put their ideas to the test to develop an innovative solution. Maximum Award: $25,000, an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World to attend the program's National Championship Week and a $2,000 U.S. Savings Bond for each student team member. Forensic Institute for Research and Education-Camps and Workshops

MTSU established the Forensic Institute for Research and Education (FIRE) in summer 2006. It provides workshops and seminars for students and educators (middle school-high school) on learning math and science through forensics. The institute, under the direction of nationally known forensic anthropologist Dr. Hugh Berryman, brings together faculty and students in several scientific specialties to provide exceptional educational and training opportunities for law enforcement, medical examiners, coroners, attorneys, social workers, and other groups in forensic science and Homeland Security. HighSchoolInterns.com is a dynamic and innovative federally approved IRS 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization based in Nashville, Tennessee, the Athens of the South. HSI has been founded to identify summer internships for high school students prior to college. National Youth Leadership Forum

Founded in 1992, the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) is an independent educational organization established to help prepare extraordinary young people for their professional careers. Its mission is to bring various professions to life, empowering outstanding young people with confidence to make well-informed career choices. NYLF programs are held in nine cities throughout the United States. Forums are offered in a variety of career fields, including law, medicine and national security. High achieving high school and university students are nominated to attend NYLF programs by educators, organization advisors, alumni, participating institutions or through classroom surveys. UTSI-Center for Laser Applications Summer Camps

The Center for Laser Applications (CLA) at The University of Tennessee Space Institute was established in 1984 as a state funded Center of Excellence to provide outstanding capabilities in research, education and technology transfer in the increasingly important area of laser applications. CLA began as an active multi-disciplined and collaborative research group at UTSI with expertise and significant industrial and university-based experience in phenomena related to the interactions of lasers with gases, liquids and solids. Year up is an intensive one-year training program for young adults ages 18-24 who provide Fortune 500 companies like Merrill Lynch, American Express, Lehman Brothers and Bank of America with Information Technology entry-level talent. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a student's first exposure to object-oriented programming. It allows students to learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated movies and simple video games. Youth Can-Career Action Network

Youth Can links eligible youth to the academic and financial help they need to receive a secondary school diploma or GED and prepares eligible youth for post-secondary educational and occupational opportunities. The ultimate outcome is for the participants to enter the workforce prepared on all levels—from academic and occupational skills achievement to the attainment of a healthy work ethic. The program operates in Davidson County for qualified youth no longer in high school. It serves qualified in-school and out-of-school youth in Rutherford and Trousdale Counties. Grants up to $1000 to girl serving STEM focused programs that promote collaborations which address gaps and overlaps in service, and share promising practices. Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee

Junior Achievement is the world's largest and fastest growing non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise. In addition to its in-school classroom programs, Junior Achievement offers Exchange City, a program which helps young people discover, investigate and become productive citizens in a life-size replica of a real city. The students operate the stores, bank, post office, radio station, snack shop, newspaper office and city hall—all outfitted with modern office equipment and business supplies. During the Exchange City experience, students learn first-hand what it takes to create a business, run a newspaper, supervise employees and hold elected office, as well as personally earn and manage money.Visit the Site
